Mermaid Cowl - Free Knitting Pattern
I designed this pattern to celebrate the launch of my collaborative yarn, Mythically Chunky with Cygnet yarns. It's a quick knit that only uses three balls of super chunky yarn! The pattern is written in chart form, so it's easy to follow. Enjoy!
MATERIALS
Any super chunky yarn that achieves the same tension stated. The original yarn this was designed in was Sincerely Louise X Cygnet Seriously Chunky which is 100% acrylic. It has 48m (52 yards) per 100g.
M - Main Colour - Mermaid (teal) x 2 balls
C - Contrast Colour - Unicorn (silver) x 1 ball
9mm (US 13) knitting needles.
Darning Needle
Tension: 8 stitches x 11 rows = 10cm x 10cm (4in x 4in) on 9mm (US 13) needles. Please swatch in C before starting this project as knitting it in the incorrect tension may change the size and yarn amounts needed.
Cast on 57 Stitches in M and work from the chart. Work the blue squares in M and the silvers squares in C. The blank squares represent knit stitches and the squares with dark circles represent purl stitches. When changing colours carry the yarn, keeping it neat - especially at the start and end of the pattern.
This pattern is worked on straight needles. After casting off sew up the cowl using mattress stitch - the abbreviation for this is BO on the chart. Weave in all loose ends.
Here I am wearing the mermaid cowls I've made! They looks best with a dark main colour and a light contrast colour, I did try a light pink and silver one but it didn't quite work out as well as the teal and red.
